“Man Face”

Medium:

Two species of beetles Catacanthus Incarnatus and Catacanthus Nigrips. Otherwise known as the Man Face stink bug, Found in Papua New Guinea, Madagascar, and Thailand.
All the insects used in my art have been raised on natural cruelty free tropical farms around the world. These educational farms, aviaries and co-ops provide a real source of income for native people who would otherwise have to sell trees off of their land or raise cattle which are both ecologically disastrous. Tropical insects are important members of these fragile ecosystems. If their natural habitats are allowed to disappear, then they to will vanish forever. Everything possible must be done to preserve them.

This species was first Discovered in 1778 by Famed British Entomologist Dru Drury.
Man-faced stink bugs can be found in several Colors such as red, yellow, orange, and cream,
and it's thought that these mostly bold colours exist to warn predators that the bug is either poisonous or at least tastes horrible. The bizarre face pattern could also function as a defence mechanism, with the pseudo-eyespots drawing attention away from the vulnerable head area.
